Walk For Life at JCC

Walk for Life is a highly effective program designed by Ruthy Alon, a leader in the Feldenkrais Method, to improve comfort and efficiency in walking. Walking can one of life's most rewarding pleasures and involves some of our most important neurological patterns. We'll discuss walking poles, which are extremely useful for reviving the primal function of our arms and enhancing the ballistic factor of propulsion by transmitting a counter-force, leading to restored flexibility and articulation of the upper back and, ultimately, improved posture.

Sonja Johansson has been teaching the Feldenkrais Method since 1999. She takes her years of experience in the fields of dance and theatre performance, fitness training, anatomy and kinesiology and integrates them with the Feldenkrais Method to create powerful, life changing programs. Working primarily with performing artists, athletes and those recovering from injury, Sonja also has a special focus on aging adults, particulary those dealing with balance issues and neurological conditions.

The Change Your Age is a quicker paced Feldenkrais-based class that highlighted changing levels - sitting, laying, kneeling, crouching, standing and more. This movement-based program weaves in cognitive challenges that will help keep both your brain and your body youthful.  Experimenting with novel, unusual and functional movement generates new brain cells connections to develop agility, strength, and vitality as you age.
